Subject:
After installing a GE board the refrigerator display reads “tc” and the refrigerator up and down temperature adjust keys do not work. In some cases the display reads normal setting, but the refrigerator up and down temperature adjust keys do not work.

Cause

GE boards are shipped with the "Turbo Cool" mode active.

During the "Turbo Cool" mode:

  • The refrigerator temperature display reads "tc"
  • The refrigerator up and down temperature adjust keys are disabled
  • The control runs the refrigerator to 34ºF for 8 hours (or until the "Turbo Cool" button is pressed to exit the "Turbo Cool" mode)
Solution

Press the "Turbo Cool" button to exit the "Turbo Cool" mode OR wait 8 hours for the unit to exit the "Turbo Cool" mode on its own.

If the appliance has the older UI (User Interface), there is no "Turbo Cool" button to press, so the consumer needs to wait the 8 hours for the unit to exit the "Turbo Cool" mode on its own.

WR55X10942 built in August 2013 or later will have the "Turbo Cool" function turned off.1
